Welcome to an enchanted world of fantasy and whimsy created by nearly 40 Victorian era artists! They created a host of little folks who mingle with exquisite birds, flowers and insects. Richard Dadd created paintings of fairy-folk rendered with minuscule detail including his most celebrated painting, The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke, which he worked on between 1855 and 1864.
Other Victorian artists who depicted fairies include Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, John Atkinson Grimshaw, Joseph Noel Paton, John Anster Fitzgerald and Daniel Maclise. The cover image is by Sophie Anderson.
The artists drew on literary inspiration from fairies appearing as significant characters in such works as William Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream, which is set simultaneously in the woodland, and in the realm of Fairyland, under the light of the moon.
Your magical journey through Fairyland is accompanied by the beautiful harp music of Laurie Riley.
